Abstract
Boerhaave's syndrome is a rate disease entity due to spontaneous esophageal rupture. Since the first description by Hermann Boerhaave in 1724, it has been thought to be a very rare, fatal-disease. Mortaility and morbidity are increased in direct
proportion to the time between diagnosis and appropriate surgical intervention. Sepsis, hypovolemic shock are the predominant causes of morbidity and mortality in Boerhaave's syndrome. In general, this syndrome is commonly associated with alcohol
abuse,
esophageal hiatal hernia and peptic ulcer perforation. The diagnosis of this syndrome is usually delayed because of relative lack of familiarity with the disease and difficulities in differential diagnosis with other mimicking disease.
We report two cases of Boerhaave's syndrome with review of the relevant literature.
